The Problem
The main contractor who was working on the heating and boiler system at Leeds General Infirmary Hospital contacted Wobeck Crane Services, they were installing a pipework and valve assembly in the main pump house at the hospital but it was raised at height on a gantry. The main contractor had carried out this sort of work before but had always had problems lifting the large components, pipework and valves into position and wondered if one of our cranes could carry this out for them. The main contractor had carried out this sort of work before but had always had problems lifting the large components, pipework and valves into position and wondered if one of our cranes could carry this out for them. It was made more difficult by the fact that the pump room is inside so access was restricted to a single doorway and no diesel could be used as it was inside work. Lastly, as it was for the hospital any works on the system needed to be carried out in unsociable hours when the heating system could be shut down.
The Solution
A member of the Wobeck Crane Services team discussed the work over the phone and offered to attend site to review the work required in person and establish if it was suitable for one of our cranes. During the site visit it was confirmed that one of our cranes would be ideal for the work, could fit through the available door way before expanding, work off gas so no diesel fumes were produced and we could also work when the heating system was switched off. The works took place and the new valve assembly installed to keep the hospital warm.
